I just signed the lease on a little cottage type place down in Anchorage. Not the best neighborhood, but something I could afford - and most importantly it has its own walls and roof, so I can play on my (muted) fiddle without having half a building trying to strangle me. Come spring I may even be able to do a spot of gardening!
I have to admit, it's actually a little intimidating. After years of Being Out On My Own, the collapse of my birth family and ensuing chaos left be bouncing about in one odd living situation after another for literally years - staying with family for a while, and more recently at my second employers' "town house." And so this is the first time in ages I'll be writing a rent check again every month. Even though the numbers work out on paper (if tighter than I'd like) - I've had this feeling of Impending Doom niggling at me all day at the thought of signing over so much cash regular-like again. I can almost physically feel the weight of yoke I'm pulling back onto my shoulders.
But then, that's the cost of life, I reckon. It may slow things up a bit on the flying end, but I think I can make do - and the self respect (and privacy) is more than worth it.
So.. to boxes, I reckon. At least I don't have much in the way of stuff here to move.

productive day, I suppose...
Paperwork hassles prevented signing up to resume flight lessons today, but it should all be straightened out by next week. So I spend the rest of the day catching up on little projects and listening to Deep Space 9 - up to about halfway through the fifth season. In that time I managed to get a little jury-rigged vaccuformer working long enough to make some parts for a belated Christmas present for the bosses, and a little leatherwork. Tomorrow should be much the same - a little grocery shopping, some visiting, but mostly hanging around and resting up. Nice change of pace. :)

catching up...
Okay, where were we?
1. Got to go out again in the Beaver saturday - AWESOME! I have to admit, despite the fact the MAF uses Cessna 206's and it would be the smarter choice, the Beaver just.... is all kinds more fun. My friend Susan says hey, maybe that's something to listen to. Maybe it is. Time will tell. Meanwhile, I'm getting steadily more useful in the air, which is nice.
2. Just finished a slideshow presentation for the Lodge - the Bosses are going to a tradeshow this week. Best of luck y'all!

3. The radio software I ordered was busted, and I had to reorder it from another source. That's the last BIG thing I wanted to have down before I show up at the aeroclub for proper lessons. So... I'll be taking back up with the flying lessons proper in probably another month or so.
4. Saw "Facing the Giants" with Kenz last Thursday.. nice way to spend an evening.
Can't think of much else right now. Other than I got a pile of books at services last Sunday to read ahead on for another class they suggest employees take. One more thing for the pile. :)
That's all for now folks.
